alt

Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is an Indian musical trio consisting of Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa. Record producers, musicians and multi-instrumentalists, they have composed music for over fifty soundtracks across four languages. Among the most critically acclaimed Indian musicians, the trio have won over twenty awards, including one National Film Award, three Filmfare Awards, three IIFA Awards among several other awards and nominations. They are often referred to as "Amar Akbar Anthony" of Hindi film music by several, including eminent critic Rajeev Masand.

Following the popular practice in Bollywood music where individuals with varied musical backgrounds collaborate together, Shankar Ehsaan Loy are the first Bollywood trio of music composers. Exploiting the unique strength of its members -- the Indian classical music of Shankar Mahadevan, the rock and acoustic pop of Ehsaan Noorani, and the electronica-fusion of Loy Mendonsa -- the trio has created successful music that is both traditional and progressive.

The trio had a successful tour of the US in 2011 and back in the US this summer with tour dates in New Jersey, DC, North Carolina, Detroit and Dallas.

Indian Ocean Rocks Dallas

alt

Indian Ocean is currently on tour across the US and the UK. On the 17th of September, they performed at the Granville Arts Center in Garland to help raise money for the Ram Mandir in Plano.

The Granville Arts Center is a reasonable small venue and seats between 500 and 600 people so it had a very personal touch to it. The show pretty much started on time when the 3 members of Indian Ocean, Amit, Rahul and Susmit along with two supporting members Himanshu Joshi and Tuheen Chakravarty (filling in for Asheem who passed away in 2009) started the show with Khajuraho.

The entire show went for about 2 hours and they played most of their popular songs like Ma Rewa, Hille Le Jhakjor, Leaving Home from their Kandisa album. They played some songs from their new album 16/330 Khajoor Road. They have also done music for Bollywood movies and played a couple of songs from Black Friday and Peepli Live.

Rahul Ram does most of the talking and is very entertaining and helps keep the mood light. Amit is multi talented and besides playing the drums, plays the flute and an Indian string instrument. The band went into a jam with the crowd on Ma Rewa which was the highlight of the show.

The show ended with, you guessed it, Kandisa, which is an ancient Aramaic hymn. After the show, the band was really nice about mingling with the crowd and allowing us to take pictures and autograph our tickets and CDs.

Overall, if you are a fan of Indian Ocean, you will really enjoy the show. Even if you are not familiar with their music, its still worth going because these guys are simply awesome musicians, but more importantly, really nice guys. Please spread the word and support these guys so that they will come back in the future.

They have 3 upcoming shows

Sep 18th - Tempe

Sep 23rd - Chicago

Sep 24th - Bay Area
