Meher Fund is a non-profit [501(C)(3)] organization (U.S. Tax I.D. #57-0814333) whose purpose is to support the Meher Free Dispensary in rural western India. Meher Fund is guided by a volunteer board of directors. (please see "About Us" on our website for more information about Meher Fund and its board.)The Meher Free Dispensary was begun in a single room in 1970 by Dr. Goher Irani in response to the need of villagers near her home. This was and is a very poor area of India and most people did not have access to modern medical treatment before Dr. Goher offered her services. In the past year 23,000 patients were seen by 5 doctors in a 7,350 square foot 18 room facility opened in 2006. All treatments are free, including doctor and nursing visits, prescribed medications, labs and even referral costs (if adequate funds are available).
